The Penderwick family had always vacationed in a house on Cape Cod, but this year was different. That property had been sold by the landlord and was unavailable. Mr. Penderwick finally finds a summer cottage available for rent in the Berkshires, one that is owned by a haughty woman who lives with her son in the huge main house on the property. The four Penderwick girls are each uncertain about this vacation, but they befriend the woman's son, who is an only child and rather lonely. The summer is filled with adventures of all kinds!
This is a very entertaining chapter book and a National Book Award Winner. It is perfect for readers in grades 4-6.
